Dr. William Burns
Dr. William T. Burns grew up in Lathrop, Missouri. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from University of Missouri in Kansas City. Following dental school, Dr. Burns joined the United States Army and completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Fort Riley, Kansas. He practiced general dentistry in the Army for 8 years with assignments in Korea, Hawaii and Michigan. Dr. Burns simultaneously completed his residency in Periodontics at Fort Gordon, Georgia and his Master of Science at The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
During his Army Periodontal Residency at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia Dr. Burns completed training in bone grafting, tissue grafting, dental implants and pathology. Dr. Burns also obtained an IV Sedation Certificate at Eisenhower Army Medical Center Fort Gordon, Georgia.
After his formal training, Dr. Burns remained in the Army treating soldiers as the Chief Periodontist at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri from June 1999 until July 2008. During that time, Dr. Burns also served as Officer in Charge of the Harper Dental Clinic from June 2003 until December 2005. In December 2005 Dr. Burns deployed to Baghdad, Iraq to serve as the General Dentist and Triage Officer for the 546th Area Support Medical Company. In August 2006, Dr. Burns returned from deployment in Iraq to once again serve as Chief Periodontist and Officer in Charge of Harper Dental Clinic. After 20 years of service to the soldiers of this great country, Dr. Burns retired in July 2008.
Upon deciding to retire from military service, Dr. Burns opened his private practice, Burns Periodontics, LLC in Rolla and Saint Robert, Missouri. Dr. Burns closed the Saint Robert office in 2013 and continues to treat periodontal patients in the Rolla, Missouri office.
Dr. Burns is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, and the Missouri Dental Association.
When he is not practicing Dr. Burns enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. His interests include family, sports, travel and shooting skeet and sporting clays.
